Position: Relief Veterinarian

Job Summary:
The Relief Veterinarian is responsible for providing high-quality veterinary care and medical services to animals in accordance with established veterinary medical and ethical standards. This role involves providing relief coverage to veterinary clinics, hospitals, and animal care facilities during periods of staff absence or increased workload.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform comprehensive medical examinations and provide appropriate diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical services for a wide variety of animal species.
2. Develop and implement treatment plans for sick or injured animals, including prescribing medications and administering vaccinations.
3. Conduct routine wellness visits, vaccinations, and preventive care consultations for companion animals.
4. Perform various diagnostic procedures, including radiography, ultrasound, and laboratory testing, to aid in accurate diagnosis and treatment.
5. Provide professional advice and counseling to pet owners regarding animal health, nutrition, behavior, and disease prevention.
6. Collaborate with veterinary technicians and support staff to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
7. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records of all patients treated, including examination findings, diagnoses, treatments, and client communication.
8. Adhere to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to veterinary medicine, including controlled substance laws and DEA regulations.
9. Stay updated with advancements in veterinary medicine and participate in continuing education activities to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
10. Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to infection control protocols and occupational health and safety standards.

Qualifications and Skills:
1. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary school.
2. Valid license to practice veterinary medicine in the state/province/country of employment.
3. Proven experience working as a veterinarian, preferably in a clinical or hospital setting.
4. Strong knowledge of veterinary medicine, including surgery, dentistry, internal medicine, and preventive care.
5. Proficient in performing routine surgical procedures, such as spays, neuters, and dental extractions.
6. Ability to diagnose and treat a wide range of animal species, including companion animals and livestock.
7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with pet owners, staff members, and other professionals.
8. Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
9. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
